The Solar Decathlon is a highly competitive international architecture competition held in Washington DC every two years. 20 select universities are to design a green home that meets the requirements of the 10 contests: Architecture, Market Appeal, Engineering, Communications, Affordability, Comfort Zone, Hot Water, Appliances, Home Entertainment, and Energy Balance. My Parsons NS Stevens team partnered with Habitat for Humanities, and accomplished ambitious goals of not only being green, but also meeting Net Zero and Passive House standards. On top of that, we met our core concepts of decreasing energy usage and reducing PV array, promoting shared utilities and carbon footprint, and creating an affordable model green home that Habitat can easily replicate for multiple families.
