Solar Decathlon 2011: Empowerhouse

The Solar Decathlon is a highly competitive international architecture competition held in Washington DC every two years. 20 select universities are to design a green home that meets the requirements of the 10 contests: Architecture, Market Appeal, Engineering, Communications, Affordability, Comfort Zone, Hot Water, Appliances, Home Entertainment, and Energy Balance. Visit solardecathlon.gov for specifics.
My Parsons NS Stevens team partnered with Habitat for Humanities, and accomplished ambitious goals of not only being green, but also meeting Net Zero and Passive House standards. On top of that, we met our core concepts of decreasing energy usage and reducing PV array, promoting shared utilities and carbon footprint, and creating an affordable model green home that Habitat can easily replicate for multiple families.

what is biomimi?

Biomimi is short for biomimicry, a way of design that looks to nature for solutions. With architectural problems such as ventilation or insulation, there are more more eco-friendly designs found using biomimicry. Biomimicry is also the combination of my greatest passions : art, nature, and the environment. There is nothing better than working to save the world and enjoying every minute of it!
